Chicken Cake For Valentine’s Day!


They, surprisingly, seemed to enjoy it! They liked it a lot until they ate all of the bread that was in it, and then they started to lose interest. But, for the most part, the chicken "cake" was a success.

Above is a photo I took of Beatrice and Cinnamon eating the chicken cake. The rooster was skeptical at first.

Mocha “Baby Shower”?

 Any day now, Mocha—my hen, whom is a McLean Hatch—will hatch off her eggs that she has been sitting on since the plausible date of 1 June. I was not expecting to have baby chicks in the coop so early on! I expected to have only a few by 2023. Nevertheless, my concerns about the eggs ‘not hatching’ are still there - and are worse than ever.. view  this blog  if you want to hear my random concerns. In order to prepare for the hatchlings, I have gotten baby chick supplies. If they happen to not hatch, the supplies will be in good use for future baby chicks. I think I will buy chicken treats just in case, or a baby chick diaper. OK, I may be a little over the top with the baby chicks; I am well aware. Cinnamon is Injured..

  Hello . Worst has come to worst: Cinnamon, my beloved pullet, has gotten herself injured. I am unsure how such thing could’ve happened to her - she is very popular amongst the chickens, and there have been no direct predator attacks. I am beginning to think that the cause could have been due to Cinnamon’s multiple escapes from the coop, only this time she couldn’t escape since the coop now has several layers of netting.. she could have scraped her comb, which is the part that had gotten harmed, on the netting/netting hooks trying to escape. Another plausible explanation for her injury was a chicken fight. I did mention that Cinnamon was getting along well with the flock, but have they been getting along with her? No. When I was feeding the flock bread yesterday, I saw Hawk—my Rhode Island Red mix—chase Cinnamon around the coop, trying to get her away from the bread I was feeding them.
